Before the interview

Good preparation is half the battle. That is why it is extremely important that you have prepared well for your job interview.

Here are a few tips to help you be prepared.

1. Go through the vacancy carefully
Think what the ideal candidate would be for the company and find the similarities with your personal skills, characteristics and experience. To find out, you can look at the company’s website.

2. Research the company
Before you go to the interview, it is important that you have already read up on the company. This way you know what the company culture is like and whether it suits you. It is also useful to learn a lot about the company, in case your contact person starts asking questions about this.

3. Practice interview questions
Later on in the article, we have listed several common interview questions. Read those questions carefully and think about what kind of answer you would like to give to them, this way you don’t panic during the conversation.

4. Prepare your interview materials and clothes
The night before the interview, prepare all the necessary items such as CV and important documents (passport, identity card) and your clothes. This way you don’t have to stress on the day itself.

5. Plan the route
Of course, you don’t want to be late, which is why it’s useful to go through the route in advance. Consider extra travel time, leave well in advance so that you do not arrive late due to a small delay.

6. End the conversation neatly
The conclusion of a conversation is just as important as a first impression. At the end of the conversation, kindly thank everyone for their time and for answering any questions you may have had. Always shake hands with your conversation partner(s) at the end of the conversation.

During the conversation

During the job interview, questions will of course be asked. Fortunately, you can prepare for these questions. There are several standard questions that are asked at almost every job interview. We have listed them below:

  • Why did you apply for this position?
  • What attracts you to this position?
  • Why should we hire you?
  • What are your strengths?
  • Are you good at working in a team?
  • Are you a hard worker? What have you done to show this?

Think about what kind of answers you want to give to these questions in advance, but beware; Don’t memorize them! If you start memorizing the answers, there is a chance that you will not know what to do anymore and will clam up. It is important that you come across as relaxed and spontaneous and that you answer the questions asked in that way.
